Between 2008 and 2011, I was a PhD student in the International Conflict Research group of Lars-Erik Cederman. My research interests include ethnic and civil conflict, ethnofederalism, decentralization, conflict resolution, and mediation. I hold M.Sc. in Cognitive Science (University of Osnabrück, 2004) and an M.A. in Comparative and International Studies (ETH Zurich, 2008).

PhD project

My PhD project investigates the relationship between ethnofederal political systems and ethnic/secessionist conflict. I am interested in whether territorial autonomy is a "slippery slope" towards secessionism or actually conflict-reducing, and in what way those institutional measures can be used for conflict management. This project is part of the larger European Collaborative Research Project Disaggregating Civil Wars:Contextualizing the Institutional Mechanisms of Ethno-Nationalist Insurgencies.
My thesis is publicly available at the ETH E-Collection.
